Dr. Marcus S. Cox
Dr. Marcus S. Cox is Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and chief academic officer of Savannah State University. He joined SSU in that role on August 1, 2025, after serving as Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Fayetteville State University.
A historian specializing in African American civil-military history, he has published extensively in that area and is the author of Segregated Soldiers: Military Training at Historically Black Colleges in the Jim Crow South. He has served as Chairman of the Veterans Rural Health Advisory Committee to the U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
He serves as Conference Academic Host, opening the conference on Day One and closing it on Day Two with a call to action.
